THE PRELUDE Romance, Op. 36 Camille Saint-Saëns
Richard Williams, french horn
*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world and those who live in it; for God has founded it on the seas and established it on the rivers.
People: Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord and who shall stand in his holy place?
Leader: Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully.
People: They will receive blessing from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their salvation.
Leader: Such is the company of those who seek God, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
People: Let us worship God, who creates us, redeems us, and sustains us. Amen.
- Psalm 24:1-6
*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 455 All Creatures of Our God and King LASST UNS ERFREUEN
(verses 1,2,5, and 6)
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, at our best, we fall short of the discipleship you call forth from each of us. At our worst, we belie the grace given us in Jesus Christ. Our sin remains before us and we are powerless to save ourselves. The strength of our own efforts cannot make us whole. Wholeness comes only from you, and we affirm once more our need of your grace. Forgive our sin, we pray, and work wonderfully within us so that faithful discipleship may indeed shine forth as a light to the nations, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 555)
All praise and thanks to God, who reigns in highest heaven, to father and to son and spirit now be given. The one eternal God, whom heaven and earth adore, the God who was, and is, and shall be evermore.

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Jeremiah 31:7-9 (page 690 in the pew Bible, OT)
THE ANTHEM Make Our Church One Joyful Choir Jonathan Crutchfield
Make our church one joyful choir on this glad and festive day and by song invoke the fire that invites our hearts to pray: Shape us, Christ, to live and claim all it means to bear your name. Bend us low by song and prayer, low enough to lift the cross and to take the weight and bear love’s uncounted final cost. Lift us up by song and prayer, till the way we deal with loss and our acts and words of care trace the pattern of your cross. Bend us, lift us, make us strong, send us out with wind and fire, so the world may hear the song that we offer as your choir: Shape us, Christ, to live and claim all it means to bear your name. Amen!
- Thomas Troeger

*THE HYMN 387 Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us BRADBURY
*THE APOSTLES’ CREED Drew Stockstill
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
