THE CALL TO CONFESSION
*THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, our judge and our redeemer, we confess that we have tried to hide from you, for we have done wrong. We have lived for ourselves, and apart from you. We have turned from our neighbors, and refused to bear the burdens of others. We have ignored the pain of the world, and passed by the hungry, the poor, and the oppressed. In your great mercy forgive our sins and free us from selfishness, that we may choose your will and obey your commandments; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

Leader: We are ambassadors for Christ; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
People: For our sake God made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Leader: For God says through the prophet Isaiah, “At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you.”
People: See, now is the acceptable time! See, now is the day of salvation!

THE ANTHEM I Want to Walk as a Child of Light arr. Jonathan Crutchfield
I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus. God set the stars to give light to the world. The star of my life is Jesus. In him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike. The lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine is my heart, Lord Jesus. I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Jesus. Clear Sun of righteousness, shine on my path, and show me the way to the Father. (Refrain). I’m looking for the coming Christ. I want to be with Jesus. When we have run with patience the race, we shall know the joy of Jesus. (Refrain) (text: Kathleen Thomerson)
THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Isaiah 58:5b-12 (page 58 in the pew Bible, OT)
THE SERMON “Your Light Shall Break Forth” James Klotz
*THE HYMN (see Insert) Light Dawns on a Weary World TEMPLE OF PEACE
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the confessions of Belhar)
We believe that God has revealed himself as the one who wishes to bring about justice and true peace among people; that God, in a world full of injustice and enmity, is in a special way the God of the destitute, the poor, and the wronged; that God calls the church to follow him in this. For God brings justice to the oppressed and gives bread to the hungry; God frees the prisoner and restores sight to the blind; God supports the downtrodden, protects the stranger, helps orphans and widows, and blocks the path of the ungodly. We believe that the church must therefore stand by people in any form of suffering and need, and the church must witness against and strive against any form of injustice, so that justice may roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Jesus is Lord. To the one and only God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be the honor and glory forever. Amen.
THE PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
