THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lord open unto me. Open unto me - light for my darkness. Open unto me - courage for my fear. Open unto me - hope for my despair. Open unto me - peace for my tur-moil. Open unto me - joy for my sorrow. Open unto me - strength for my weakness. Open unto me - wisdom for my confusion. Open unto me - forgiveness for my sins. Open unto me - love for my hates. Open unto me - thy self for myself. Lord, Lord, open unto me! Amen.
-Prayer by Rev. Dr. Howard Thurman
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: “The message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
People: ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’
Leader: For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.” Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. -1 Corinthians 1:18-19; 25
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Hymn 298
For the love of God is broader than the measures of the mind; and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. If our love were but more faithful, we would gladly trust God’s Word; and our lives reflect thanksgiving for the goodness of our Lord.
*THE PEACE OF CHRIST
Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
People: And also with you.
THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

THE SOLO The Day He Wore My Crown Phil Johnson
The city was Jerusalem; the time was long ago. The people called him Jesus, the crime was the love he showed. For me, he paid the price, he made the sacrifice. He gave himself the day he wore my crown. He bore the cross and suffered there for me, Warm tears streaked down his face; In death he taught me how to live, and saved me by his grace. For me, he paid the price, he made the sacri-fice. He gave himself the day he wore my crown. He could have called his Holy Father and said, “Take me away, please, take me away.” He could have said, “I’m not guilty and I’m not going to stay, I’m not going to pay.” But he walked right through the gate; and then up on the hill. And as he fell beneath the weight he cried, “Father not my will.” For me, he paid the price, he made the sacrifice. He gave himself the day he wore my crown. John Young, tenor and pianist

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
