THE PRELUDE “Come, God, Creator, Holy Spirit” Johann Pachelbel

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!
People: I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long.
Leader: Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them.
People: Who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry.
Leader: The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.
People: The Lord watches over the strangers; God upholds the orphan and the widow but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
Leader: Let us worship God who creates us, sustains us and redeems us. - Psalm 146:1-2; 5-9
*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 313 Come Down, O Love Divine DOWN AMPNEY
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternally gracious God, you promise to pour out your spirit on us that we may have visions and dreams, prophecies and portents. Yet we are hesitant of the violent wind, afraid of what you will demand of us. You demand conversion, repentance – change in our inward being and our outward demeanor. We know this is not a game or a ritual Lord. The stakes are high. Being in covenant with you will mark us and demand of us our very lives. And yet, Lord, we are irresistibly called. We cannot say no. So strengthen us, forgive our failures and guide us to discipleship that we may proclaim the good news of the crucified and risen Christ, Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
People: He gives power to the faithful and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted, but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! -Isaiah 40:28-31
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 326)
Spirit of God, descend upon my heart; Wean it from earth, through all its pulses move; stoop to my weakness, mighty as thou art, and make me love thee as I ought to love.
*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
People: And also with you.
