Leader: The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
People: The LORD is good to all, and God’s compassion is over all that God has made.
Leader: The LORD is just in all the LORD’S ways, and kind in all the LORD’S doings.
People: The LORD is near to all who call on God, to all who call on God in truth.
Leader: God fulfills the desire of all who fear the LORD; The LORD also hears their cry, and saves them.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, perhaps the most profound of emotions is longing for home. If we are fortunate, we are blessed with memories of a place of safety, security and love. If we were not blessed with such experiences, we know that they are for others a source of strength and we long for them. Home: it can be a blessing. And yet, there are times when we run away. Perhaps we run from something we have done. Perhaps we run from something someone has done to us. Whatever our reasons, we are running. And yet in love, you remain our heart’s true home. We need assurance and you are always there. We need forgiveness and you always stand ready to forgive and to receive us into your embrace. We offer our prayer need for forgiveness and with gratitude we know it is already given. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Leader: Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.

As Jacob with travel was weary one day, at night on a stone for a pillow he lay: he saw in a vision a ladder so high, that its foot was on earth, and its top in the sky: Alleluia to Jesus who died on the tree, and hath raised up a ladder of mercy for me. This ladder is long, it is strong and well-made, has stood hundreds of years and is not yet decayed; many millions have climbed it and reached Zion’s hill, and thousands by faith are climbing it still (refrain). Come, let us ascend, all may climb it who will, for the angels of Jacob are guarding it still: and remember, each step that by faith we pass o’er, some prophet or martyr hath trod it before (refrain).
