THE PRELUDE How Firm a Foundation arr. Michael Burkhardt
*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever,
People: With my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: I declare that your steadfast love is established forever,
People: Your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
Leader: Let us worship the Lord our God. -Psalm 89:1-2
*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty UNSER HERRSCHER
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, we confess there are times when faith is not easy. There are times when the claim of the Gospel upon our lives is costly. There are times when we would turn aside onto an easier path rather than face what your promises would elicit from us. Forgive us when in our living we fail to do and be what you have called for from us. Forgive us when we cannot remember that it is you who have carried us through the years. And in forgiving us, give us encouragement that we may be strengthened in our faith and live out the calling you have given us. We pray all these things in Jesus’ name and for his sake, Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord;
People: “I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds,”
Leader: He also adds,
People: “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
Leader: Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. So believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Hebrews 10:16-18
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 354)
Search my heart while I run this race. Search my heart while I run this race. Search my heart while I run this race, for I don’t want to run this race in vain!
*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
People: And also with you.

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Psalm 85:8-13 (page 514 in the pew Bible, OT)
THE ANTHEM Make Our Church One Joyful Choir Jonathan Crutchfield
Make our church one joyful choir on this glad and festive day and by song invoke the fire that invites our hearts to pray: Shape us, Christ, to live and claim all it means to bear your name. Bend us low by song and prayer, low enough to lift the cross and to take the weight and bear love’s uncounted final cost. Shape us, Christ, to live and claim all it means to bear your name. Lift us up by song and prayer, till the way we deal with loss and our acts and words of care trace the pattern of your cross. Shape us, Christ, to bear your name. Bend us, lift us, make us strong, send us out with wind and fire, so the world may hear the song that we offer as your choir: Shape us, Christ, to live and claim all it means to bear your name. Amen! *THE HYMN 379 My Hope is Built SOLID ROCK
*THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
