Rev. Dr. Jonathan Crutchfield, organist
*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork.
People: Day to day pours forth speech and night declares knowledge.
Leader: There is no speech nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.
People: The heavens are telling the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork. Let us worship God!
Leader: Let us worship God, creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen. - Psalm 19:1-4
*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 416 Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation WESTMINSTER ABBEY
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Most gracious God, you are the source of our life in Christ Jesus, who be-came for us wisdom, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption. Too often, we boast not in you, but in ourselves and in our feeble attempts to live unto ourselves. Justice does not flow down like waters, the ever-flowing stream of righteousness has dried up. Forgive us, and call us again to live into Christ, and witness by our actions not to the wisdom of the world, but instead to divine fool-ishness. Through Christ our Lord we pray all these things. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: So, if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
People: Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Leader: When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Colossians 3:1-4
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 83)
For us to evil power betrayed, scourged, mocked in purple robe arrayed, he bore the shameful cross and death, for us gave up his dying breath.
*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
People: And also with you.
