THE PRELUDE Andante in D Felix Mendelssohn
Rev. Dr. Jonathan Crutchfield, organist
*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: With my whole heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments. I treasure your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against you.
People: Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes. With my lips I declare all the ordinances of your mouth.
Leader: I delight in the way of your decrees as much as in all riches. I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
People: I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
Leader: Let us worship the Lord our God. - Psalm 119:10-16
*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 489 Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty UNSER HERRSCHER
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, you have entrusted to the church the message of Good News: that our sins are forgiven. That nothing, not even death, can separate us from your love in Christ Jesus. The message of the cross is of your extravagant love poured out sacrificially for all of creation. Yet, we stay stuck on sin. The fear of hell suffuses our questions of faith. But you didn’t make us for fear, and you didn’t make us for hell, so reorient our lives toward your grace, mercy, and goodness. Remind us that there is nowhere you would not go, and nothing you would not do, to bring us once more into your loving embrace. These and all of our prayers, we make in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Who is to condemn?
People: It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes who was raised, who is at the right hand of God who indeed intercedes for us.
Leader: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
People: neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Leader: Believe the promise of the gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Romans 8:34; 38-39
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 83)
All Glory to our Lord and God for love so deep, so high, so broad: the Trinity whom we adore forever and forevermore.
*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
People: And also with you.

THE GOSPEL LESSON John 12:20-33 (page 100 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE ANTHEM Like as the Hart Desireth the Waterbrooks Herbert Howells
Like as the hart desireth the waterbrooks, so longeth my soul after thee, O God. My soul is athirst for God, yea, even for the living God. When shall I come to appear before the presence of God? My tears have been my meat day and night, while they daily say unto me, “Where is now thy God?” (text: Psalm 42:1–3)
THE EPISTLE LESSON Hebrews 5:5-10 (page 207 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE SERMON “The High Priest” Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis
*THE HYMN 522 Lord, When I Came Into This Life LAND OF REST
*THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and bur-ied; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he as-cended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Ho-ly Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
