Making Connections

Morningside Presbyterian Church offers a variety of opportunities for members and friends to get to know each other better and enjoy the company of others in our faith community — beyond the traditional activities of worship, study and mission — with meaningful ways to build connections and friendships.

Morningsiders gather every Sunday after worship to catch up on each other’s busy schedules and get a head start on lunch.  The church offers other ways to connect and get acquainted as well, including a number of groups which meet informally on a fairly regular basis — One Gray Hair, LGBT & Friends, the RHO Readers and the Couples Group, to name just a few.  The following pages describe how we meet, greet and eat with each other and groups specifically for youth, adults, children, and families.

People with similar interests are welcome at any group.  Everyone also is welcome to join Morningside members in the ministry of prayer by participating in our weekly Prayer Group. To find out more ways to be involved, download our Using Your Gifts volunteer form, check off your interests and turn the form in to the church office.

Special Opportunities to Connect

Various gatherings with members and friends of Morningside Presbyterian are held throughout the year.

  • Attend a theater outing with friends from MPC.  In the past, we have enjoyed performances at Theater Du Reve, the Alliance Theatre, Theatrical Outfit and Georgia Shakespeare.  Watch this site and the weekly "Life@Morningside" for our next theater party. We've also gone as a group to various exhibits and museums around the metro area.

  • Throughout the year, families gather at the homes of members to get to know one another better. Occasional Morningside Mingles offer adults a purely social gathering.

  • Another special treat is an occasional trip abroad.  For 2013, the destination is Scotland.  In 2008, 21 Morningsiders visited Paris and Geneva, attending a performance of "Porgy and Bess" at the Opera-Comique with the chorus led by Walter Huff and including members of our Chancel Choir.

Gatherings for any group are always popping up at Morningside, and the examples above are just a sampling.  If you would like to open your home to a group from MPC or host an outing, contact one of our Congregational Nurture co-chairs Mary Chapman or Hillery McNeill today.
