Special Music Events

Music at Morningside has built a great reputation among musicians and music lovers. The excellence of Morningside's music program has attracted singers and instrumentalists from all over the Atlanta area and around the country. Special music events occur throughout the year, including Palm Sunday, Easter, and the Advent season — which culminates in a well-loved Candlelight Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols.

Morningside is also pleased to be a venue for a variety of other community musical events each year.   In the Tim Wilkerson photo above, the Atlanta High School Opera Institute held their second annual Spring Concert in our Sanctuary to enthusiastic applause in June 2012, culminating their 2011-12 educational program under the direction of Walter Huff. An equally successful 'graduation' concert followed in June 2013. The HARMONY International Youth Choir, 100 strong, rehearses at MPC and invited our community to their reunion concert in June 2010.  The 'Evening of Broadway' concerts in 2004 and 2006 directed by Walter Huff brought unparalleled talent to our community.  To celebrate the rebuild and enlargement of our 1956 Wicks pipe organ, Morningside Presbyterian hosted a concert by distinguished organist Donald Sutherland, Coordinator of the Organ Department at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in November of 2007.  Morningside then hosted the regional American Guild of Organists' meeting in January 2008 with another organ recital featuring renowned organist Thomas Murray.
