For Adults

Adult Christian education opportunities are available weekly at Morningside Presbyterian — not only on Sunday mornings, but on weekday mornings and evenings.  Whether in a one-time community forum, a more intimate small group study, or in regular weekly or monthly gatherings, there are options for everyone. We explore biblical, theological, spiritual and ethical topics together in these varied offerings. Brief descriptions of some of our regular opportunities follow, but if you have questions regarding any of the details of these opportunities, please contact the church office — and watch this site, our monthly Morningside Messenger newsletter and weekly Life@Morningside bulletin insert for upcoming events and dates.

The Bible Class — The Morningside Bible Class, regularly led by Rev. Drew Stockstill, meets each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201. This is a great class to drop-in and visit any Sunday. Special short-term studies, such as a focus on the words and music used at Advent, are also offered throughout the year.

Theology on Tap — The men of Morningside invite all men in the congregation and community to join in our monthly "Theology on Tap" program. This event always provides an opportunity for lively discussion on topics related to living our faith in the real world. Examples of past topics include: "Prayer for Busy Men," "Christian Perspectives on War," "Presbyterianism 101," "The Rise of Atheism in America," and "Faith and Politics." On the first Tuesday of each month, from September (second Tuesday in September) through May, this group meets at 7:00 p.m. at the home of a member for a light dinner, followed by discussion. Contact the church office for more information or to be included on the email list.

Third Thursday Theological Thowndown — Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis loves wrestling with theological questions and concepts!  Everyone is invited to bring a bag lunch and join him in the Session Room on the third Thursday of the month at noon.  The ongoing topic for early 2013 is the Lord's Prayer.

Women's Roundtable — This group meets on the fourth Monday of the month (from January through April and August through November) from 6:30-8:45 p.m. at the home of a member. The women of Morningside — and the community at large — are invited to come together as a roundtable where we can connect through sharing knowledge, ideas and concerns. The MPC Women's Roundtable invites a dynamic speaker each month to address a topic affecting our lives, either personally or as part of the community around us. Each Roundtable evening includes dinner, time for fellowship and an inspired intellectual conversation at a home here in the Morningside neighborhood.

Wonderful Wednesdays Bible Discussion — This congenial group meets to deepen their biblical knowledge and significantly increase bonds with other members. Meetings are held in a member's home on the first and third Wednesday evening of each month (except during the summer), from 7:00-8:00 p.m. During 2013, participants in this group are reading and discussing each of the letters the Apostle Paul wrote to the early churches he founded, as well as to individuals.  If this timing isn't convenient for your schedule, however, you're encouraged to explore forming another group to meet at a mutually convenient time.  To pursue this idea, contact Drew Stockstill.

Community Forums — Past speakers have included both Morningside members and guests from the community who are leaders in their fields of expertise. Topics have ranged from Art and Ancient Spirituality to hearing from the Presbyterian Public Policy Advocate. Rev. Joanna Adams and Rabbi Hillel Norry of Congregation Shearith Israel partnered for a Rabbi & Reverend series on the books of Ruth and Job. We welcomed authors Deborah Lipstadt and Hamilton Jordan, and have been honored to have freelance writer and commentator Sandra Mackey and family counselor Peter Gorday lead discussions.

Inquirer and New Member Classes — These classes are offered at 9:45 a.m. on select Sundays in the Session Room, where Elders share insights about life at Morningside and Senior Pastor Baron Mullis leads discussions about faith and commitment. For more information about Inquirer and New Member classes, we'd encourage you to read the information found on our Join Us page.
