Gatherings for Youth

Morningside Presbyterian has two program for our older youngsters. Chris Peters, who attends Columbia Theological Seminary, directs our Middle School Youth Group, which welcomes all youth sixth grade and above. Our fourth through sixth graders, generally known as the Double Digits, form their own active group.

Youth Group

MPC's Youth Group has their own space, known as the Youth Loft, directly across from the balcony and sits together in reserved pews on the pulpit side of the balcony during worship. Generally, youth-group activities take place every Sunday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and may focus on fun, study or service projects. Calendars with scheduled activities for our youth are emailed to the group, but you can click here to see the latest calendar and also check this site, our monthly Morningside Messenger newsletter and the weekly Life@Morningside bulletin insert for more information on specific upcoming activities.

Double Digits

The Double Digits meet during worship in Room 005 on Sundays and once a month, they attend worship together (on Communion Sundays, the first Sunday of each month).  Additionally, during the school year they gather for monthly activities that are educational, mission-related and fun, such as sorting food at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, visiting the Exploring Antiquities exhibit or ice skating at Centennial Park. If you have any questions about Double Digit activities or would like to volunteer, contact Double Digit leader, Heather Bardole, and watch this site, our monthly Morningside Messenger newsletter and weekly Life@Morningside bulletin insert for information on upcoming Double Digit adventures.

Leadership Opportunities

  • During Vacation Bible School, these youth are members of the team.  They prepare and share the Bible skits for each day with the younger children.  They also prepare and lead the closing group time each day.

  • All children 2nd grade and older take turns carrying in the communion elements during worship.

  • At quarterly Big Fun days, the Double Digits lead groups through the drama lesson, mission project and lunch.

  • For the annual Christmas pageant, the Middle Schoolers are given the choice of being in the production or being directors and stage crew.  A very talented 7th grader ran our sound system in 2009.

  • Double Digits are our liturgists at the Early Christmas Eve service, telling the story of the birth of Christ.
