Family Gatherings

Various gatherings geared to connecting children and their families with others in the congregation and community are offered throughout the year.

  • The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper has grown to include wearing your pajamas too (if you're a kid)!  All are welcome the night before Ash Wednesday each year from 5:30-6:45 p.m.  Pancakes are the main course, along with crafts, games and entertainment as we kick off our annual Coins for Clowns collection to support the clown program at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Children are also invited to bring new pajamas, underwear and/or socks for the Threads program which provides new and gently used clothes for children in need.

  • Each fall, Morningside Presbyterian Preschool throws a Jungle Jam here at the church. This fun-filled event includes train and pony rides, a cake walk, bouncies, face painting and more! Come out to enjoy the festivities while supporting this annual fundraiser.

  • Families enjoy Potluck Playground Picnics every few months, staying after worship to visit while kids enjoy the playground.  Bring a dish to share — beverages and paper products are provided. Contact Playground Picnic Shepherd Brooke Williams with any questions.

  • The annual Thanksgiving Gathering is typically held on the first Monday of November, from 5:30-6:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  All are welcome for a family-friendly meal and crafts that focus on giving thanks. There are games, face painting and the Cherub Choir sings, too.  This event happens the same week as the Morningside Presbyterian Preschool Book Fair and there is an opportunity to buy a book for the children who attend the Our House preschool in Decatur, which is for children who are facing homelessness.

  • Don't miss Free Holiday Babysitting on the first Monday in December. Members of Morningside provide three hours of free childcare at the church for infants through 5th graders from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Be sure to sign up ahead of time for your opportunity to do some holiday shopping, get up decorations or go out to dinner with your spouse or friends. The children will enjoy age-appropriate activities and pizza for dinner. You can come for one, two or all three hours!

  • The third Sunday in December features our kids in a traditional — and more! — Christmas Pageant in Fellowship Hall, followed by a soup and chili supper and carol sing led by Choirmaster Walter Huff for everyone's holiday enjoyment.

  • All are welcome at the Children's Christmas Eve service,  at 4:00 p.m. on December 24.  This early service not only incorporates older children as liturgists and musicians, but also is geared towards children in length and format.   The Morningside Handbell Choir leads our musical offerings.  A nursery is provided.
