Journey

Journey (formerly the Druid Hills Night Shelter) resulted from a partnership of more than 20 churches and organizations throughout the metro-Atlanta area. The shelter provides transitional housing for up to 30 men who are employed or actively seeking work. Referred by Crossroads, Samaritan House or Intown Collaborative Ministries, guests receive dinner, a safe night's sleep, a shower, and breakfast.

Morningside’s participation:

On the second Sunday of each month, Morningside Presbyterian provides dinner for the guests at the shelter. This wonderful opportunity for service allows us to work toward eliminating one of the most prevalent and pressing concerns in the Atlanta area — homelessness. In December, our children's choir sings for the men.

How you can get involved:

We need people to help prepare the meals, as well as folks who are able to serve the food at 6:30 p.m. on our Sunday evenings. You can download more information and detailed instructions about helping with this ministry to the shelter residents.

Additionally, the shelter regularly needs toiletries and other necessities, such as first aid supplies (band-aids, aspirin, etc.), sheets and pillows, towels, washcloths, soap (travel size), toothpaste (travel size) and lotion (travel size). And, as shelter residents 'graduate' to their own living quarters, they need help furnishing their spaces with just about everything.

Together, we can provide a hot meal and warm fellowship to members of our community in deep need and in so doing, share the compassion and mercy of God that we proclaim.
