* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 489   Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty

THE CALL TO CONFESSION                                      Chris Henry

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, you have called us into covenant, yet our
commitment is shallow and our love is weak. We place lesser
concerns high on the list of our life's priorities, and so we sacrifice our
relationship with you.
Forgive our sin, O God, and turn us again toward your purposes. Reform
our lives by renewing our dedication to the covenant we have entered
through our baptism in Jesus Christ. By the leading of your Holy Spirit, give
us a new sense of our calling, a new zeal in our faithfulness, a new compassion
toward neighbors need, and a new appreciation for your love in Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 220)
Know that the Lord is God indeed; Without our aid He did us make;
We are His folk, He doth us feed, and for His sheep He doth us take.
Amen.

* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children are always welcome in the Sanctuary during worship. Should you find that your child grows restless,
there is child care available. Infants are cared for in the Nursery in Room 105, toddlers 18 months through two
years in Room112. Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Passing of the Peace for special
classes. Preschoolers are in Room 204 and K-5th grade are in Room 201.)

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)

THE RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS

THE FIRST LESSON Isaiah 42:5-9 (page 630 in the Pew Bible)

THE ANTHEM            Praise to the Lord, the Almighty              Mark Hayes

For the final verse of the anthem, the congregation will be invited to stand,
joining the choir in singing:

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him! All that hath
life and breath, come now with praises before Him! Let the Amen
sound from his people again; gladly for aye we adore Him.

THE SECOND LESSON Acts 26: 12-23 (page 138 in the Pew Bible)

THE SERMON                      “Faithfulness to the Vision”         Edwin W. Albright
“After that, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision…” Acts 26:19

* THE HYMN 411 Arise, Your Light Is Come!

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by
the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the
third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and
sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence
he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the
communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the
body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us
this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our
debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY                  In Every Age                  Janet Whitaker
Tami Giusto and Linda Rozakis, soloists

Long before the mountains came to be and the land and sea and stars of the night,
through the endless seasons of all time, you have always been, you will always be. In
every age, O God, you have been our refuge, you have been our hope. Teach us to
make use of the time we have, to be patient even as we wait, to embrace our every
joy and pain. To sleep peacefully and to rise up strong.

*THE HYMN 210 Our God, Our Help in Ages Past  (verses 1-5)
