THE CHIMING OF THE HOUR

THE LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT WREATH                    Youth of Morningside**

* Unison Prayer:
God of peace, grant that we may find peace as we prepare for our
Lord’s birth. May divisions in ourselves and in our families be
resolved. May there be peace in our cities and the countries of the
world. Help us to see the paths of peace in our lives, and then give us
the courage to follow them. Let us remember that you are the giver of
lasting peace and that you are always with us. Amen.

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 9         O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O Lord, Our God: We bow our hearts in adoration of your Son, who
stooped low to meet us in our human state and bore upon himself all our sin,
so that we might be whole; and has been raised into glory by the power of
your Spirit, where he reigns with you as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Yet
we confess that we have not followed his example; rather than laying down
our lives for others in gratitude for all you have done for us, we have pursued
self-advancement and preservation.
Forgive us for paying lip-service to the reign of Jesus Christ; empower
us by the Holy Spirit to live according to his life and teaching, laying
down our lives in love, to your honor and glory forever. Amen.
