THE PRELUDE                                                                          Walter Huff

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP                                                Christopher Henry

Leader: Christ is risen!

People: He is risen indeed!

Leader: Glory to Christ, who has opened the gate to eternal life.

People: Glory to God, who has won the victory over death.

Leader: Glory to the Holy Spirit, who is everywhere the giver and renewer of
life.

All: Alleluia! Amen.

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 123         Jesus Christ Is Risen Today

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Mighty God, by your power Christ is raised from death to rule
this world in love. We confess that we have not always believed in
him, but fall into doubt and fear. Gladness has no home in our
hearts, and gratitude is slight. Forgive our dread of dying, our
hopelessness, and set us free for joy in the victory of Jesus Christ,
who was dead but lives and will put down every power to hurt or
destroy when your promised kingdom comes. Grant us to die
daily to sin that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his
resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 119)
The strife is o’er, the battle done, the victory of life is won.
The song of triumph has begun. Alleluia!

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children are always welcome in the Sanctuary during worship. Should you find that your child grows restless,
there is child care available. Infants are cared for in the Nursery in Room 105, toddlers 18 months through two
years in Room112. Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Baptism for special classes. Preschoolers
are in Room G-11 and K-5th grade are in Room G-1.)

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

Leader: Michael, Grace, Bryce, and Duncan have now been received into the one holy
catholic and apostolic church through baptism. God has made them members of the
household of God. Let us welcome the newly baptized.

People: With joy and thanksgiving we welcome them into Christ’s church.
We are the family of God for we are all one in Christ.

THE CHORAL RESPONSE               Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks          Fishel

THE ANTHEM                                              Te Deum                       Rutter
                                                      (see insert for text)

The Te Deum is one of the most ancient, and inspiring, of Christian liturgical texts. At one time it
was believed to have been jointly written by St. Ambrose and St. Augustine, but recent research
suggests it is even older, originating early in the fourth century as a Preface, Sanctus, and concluding
prayer for the Mass of the Easter Vigil. This work by John Rutter was first performed in 1988 at
Canterbury Cathedral

THE SCRIPTURE LESSON                       Matthew 28:1-10        (page 32 in the Pew Bible)

THE SERMON                                     “The Easter Shakes”          Joanna Adams
So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Matthew 28:8

* THE HYMN 115                        Come, Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain

THE OFFERTORY                            How Can I Keep from Singing?           Lowry, arr. Ellingboe

My life flows on in endless song above earth’s lamentation. I hear the real, though far-off
hymn that hails a new creation. No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that rock I’m
clinging. Since Christ is lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing? Through all the
tumult and the strife, I hear the music ringing! It sounds and echoes in my soul. How can I keep
from singing? What though the tempest around me roar, I hear the truth; it liveth. What though
the darkness around me close, songs in the night it giveth.

* THE RESPONSE AND PRAYER OF INTERCESSION AND DEDICATION (Hymn 150)
Praise yet our Christ again. Alleluia! Amen!
Life shall not end the strain. Alleluia! Amen!
On heaven’s blissful shore His goodness we’ll adore,
Singing for ever more, “Alleluia! Amen!”

* THE HYMN 423                        Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun
                                                            (verses 1 through 5)
