WORSHIP APRIL 20, 2008
5TH SUNDAY OF EASTER

THE PRELUDE                                                                 Walter Huff

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP                                        Christopher Henry

Leader: O God, you summon the day to dawn, you teach the morning to waken the earth. For you the valleys shall sing for joy, the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

People: Great is your name. Great is your love.

Leader: For you the monarchs of the earth shall bow, the poor and persecuted shall shout for joy. Your love and mercy shall last for ever, fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise.

People: Great is your name. Great is your love.

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 288 I Sing the Mighty Power of God

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of mercy, we confess before you that in all generations men and women have rejected you again and again. At times we seek in pride to become gods, denying the good limits that define us as creatures. At other times we draw back in apathy, refusing to fulfill our human responsibilities. The antagonism between races, nations, and neighbors, between women and men, children and parents, between human beings and the natural order, are manifestations of our sin against you. Forgive us, and make us whole, for the sake of Christ, our Savior. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE                                   (Hymn 426)

O fill me with Thy fullness, Lord, until my very heart o’erflow In kindling thought and glowing word, Thy love to tell, Thy praise to show.

* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children are always welcome in the Sanctuary during worship. Should you find that your child grows restless, there is child care available. Infants are cared for in the Nursery in Room 105, toddlers 18 months through two years in Room 112. Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Passing of the Peace for special classes. Preschoolers are in Room G-11 and K-5th grade are in Room G-1.)

THE ANTHEM               I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes                                         Pfautsch

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh
from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved. He
that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber
nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper and thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not
smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil, shall
preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and coming in from this time
forth and for evermore.
- from Psalm 121
