7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP                                                        Christopher Henry

Leader: Let us pray together:
All: Almighty God,to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

* THE PROCESSIONAL                     HYMN 376                         Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
                                                (verses 1 through 3)

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty God, you love us, but we do not love you fully. You call, but we do
not always listen. We often walk away from neighbors in need, wrapped in our
own concerns. We often condone evil, hatred, warfare, and greed.
God of grace, help us to admit our sin, so that as you move toward us in
mercy, we may repent, turn to you, and receive forgiveness; through Jesus
Christ our Redeemer. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE                                                            (Hymn 280)

The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children are always welcome in the Sanctuary during worship. Should you find that your child grows restless,
there is child care available. Infants are cared for in the Nursery in Room 105, toddlers 18 months through two

THE OFFERTORY                                   Psalm 138                                       Claude Le Jeune
                                             (sung in French and English)

I thank thee Lord with all my heart, offering songs of acclamation. And in the presence of
the great, I sing thy praise with jubilation. And in thy holy temple, I thy great name
celebrate and magnify. Thanks be to thee, O Lord above for faithfulness and thy divine
love.

(John Calvin, born in 1509 in Noyon, France, was the father of the Presbyterian Church and
other churches of the Reformed Tradition. He introduced the congregational singing of the Psalms
in the language of the people, with rhymed stanzas set to simple, reverent tunes. This setting of
Psalm 138 is an example from the Genevan Psalter of 1551, with French words by the poet
Clément Marot [1496-1544].)
