15TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP Christopher Henry
Leader: God is our refuge and strength, a present help in trouble.
People: Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
Leader: Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its
tumult.
People: The Lord of Hosts is with us;
Leader: The God of Jacob is our refuge.
All: Thanks be to God.
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 473 For the Beauty of the Earth
(verses 1 through 5)
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you. We
humbly confess our sins and ask your mercy. We have not loved you with a
pure heart, nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have not done
justice, loved kindness, or walked humbly with you, our God.
Have mercy on us, O God, in your loving-kindness. In your great
compassion, cleanse us from our sin. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and
renew a right spirit within us. Do not cast us from your presence, or take your
Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and sustain us with
your bountiful Spirit. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures; He will my
shield and portion be as long as life endures.

(sung in Latin)
Where charity and love are, God is there. Christ’s love has gathered us into one. Let us
rejoice and be pleased in Him. Let us fear, and let us love the living God. And may we love
each other with a sincere heart. Amen.
THE SECOND LESSON Mark 1:32-39 (page 33 in the Pew Bible)
THE SERMON “Too Busy to Live” Joanna Adams
In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place,
and there he prayed. Mark 1:35
* THE HYMN 345 Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the
Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose
again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right
hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the
quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
