LITURGIST TODAY
Today we welcome The Reverend John Morgan as guest liturgist.

SUNDAY FORUM TODAY
Please plan to stay after worship today for our ongoing series of Sunday
Forums at Morningside. Chris Henry, Mardee Rightmyer, and
Morningside's denominational liaison David York will lead a discussion
on contentious issues facing the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and how
these issues are being addressed locally and nationally. As the Presbytery
of Greater Atlanta prepares for an important vote on ordination
standards, we will consider some of the ways in which our congregation
participates in the ministry of the denomination. The Forum will begin
at 12:15pm in Room 201.

CHOIR TO SERVE
Members of Morningside who are also choir members will cook and
serve dinner at the Druid Hills Night Shelter this evening, Feb. 8, 6:15-
7:30 p.m. Please see Julie Green.

COMMON GROUND
This is Pick-a-Pan Sunday! Take home an empty pan and return it to
the church by 10 a.m. this Tues., Feb. 10 filled with the requested item.
Thank you for supporting our monthly efforts to provide lunch
for 40 men attending the Common Ground program at AIDS Alliance
for Faith & Health. Please come in via our new entry and leave your pan
on the table outside of the Session Room 103.

TAI CHI CLASS NOW FORMING
Led by Bob Wells, this one-hour class will meet on Wednesdays at 2
p.m. in Fellowship Hall for eight weeks, beginning Wednesday, March
4. Special cost for this daytime session is $50.00 for the course. If
interested, please contact Sarah Brownlee at 404.876.3572 or
rsbrownlee1046@att.net.

GIVE FROM THE HEART
There is a collection point in the Narthex for $10 gift cards (CVS,
Publix, Target, etc.) so that we can give a Valentine gift to each of the
14 ladies at the Shearith Israel Women's Shelter.

LENT DEVOTIONALS
Seminary Intern Kevin Weber (Kevin.m.weber@gmail.com) is seeking
volunteers to assist in producing a devotional, written by Morningsiders,
for the Lenten season. Contact him if you can work on layout, and also
be sure to sign up today in the Narthex to write one of the devotionals
by Feb. 11.

A VALENTINE FOR MPC
Next Sat., Feb. 14, 8:30 a.m.-12 noon, join in on Morningside's
Valentine with our churchwide Gardening Workday. We will be
assisting Trees Atlanta in planting the area around our new church
entrance. Please bring shovels and wheel barrows and wear work
gloves. In particular, we need some men to help with planting fairly large
shrubs and trees. There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex, so we can
estimate how many people we will have. Please contact Beth Baer for
more information at 404.873.0648 or bbaer@beloinlaw.com.

LENTEN MISSION TRIP
Please contact Richard Brownlee at 404.876.3572 or
rsbrownlee1046@att.net if you are interested in participating in our
Lenten Mission trip to Pearlington, MS, Mar. 16-20. The trip will
continue our work with a community still recovering from Hurricane
Katrina. The cost for adults is $80 for four nights at the Presbyterian
Village. Registration is due by Feb. 15.

PAJAMAS!
Pajamas fly out the door at the Threads store, a clothing ministry of All
Saint's Episcopal Church. MPC will help to ease the deficit by
collecting new pajamas, underwear and socks on Sunday, February 22.
Look for collection baskets in the Narthex for your new PJ's, underwear,
and socks to warm up infants through 5th grade sizes. Boys' clothes are
in shorter supply than girls' clothes, so if in doubt, choose boys'
clothes. Contact Gail Kitchens at 770.436.7617 or Grace Howard
404.849.4758 with any questions.

CONGRATULATIONS!
Tom and Lynn Daniel are celebrating the birth of their granddaughter
Sophia in Hunstville, Alabama last week.

SESSION RETREAT
Morningside's Session and staff spent the day together yesterday at a
day-long retreat in Ellijay.

ANNUAL REPORT
In case you were unable to join us for our annual meeting on Jan. 25,
copies of the Annual Report and budget are in the kiosk.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
The Bible Class - Scripture, Culture, and Agriculture:
An Agrarian Reading of the Bible Next week, Morningside's
Bible Class continues this four-week series with a
study of "Wholesome Materiality" in the Book of Leviticus. Though the
third book of the Bible receives very little attention in contemporary Christian
devotion, it is full of interesting and forward-thinking commands for
life in the Promised Land. As the Hebrew people prepare to occupy this
land flowing with milk and honey, Moses warns them against abuse of the
land itself and its inhabitants. The laws of land use in Leviticus provide a
fascinating perspective on the sacredness of creation that can inform our
own understanding of the world entrusted to our care. The series takes its
title from a new book of essays by Duke Divinity School professor Ellen
Davis that explore passages in the Old Testament that show pervasive concern
for the care of the earth and praise for the God of creation.
This class is taught by Associate Pastor Chris Henry and meets at 9:45 a.m.
