SAVE THE DATE!
Our church has reserved the beautiful William Black Lodge in Montreat, North Carolina, for our first and hopefully annual fall retreat! The dates are Friday-Sunday, November 20-22, 2009. Details and costs will soon be forthcoming. Montreat is located on a 4,000 acre area of the Blue Ridge Mountains and has been a Mecca for southern Presbyterians for generations. Kids, adults, and everyone in between are invited. We have already lined up a marvelous retreat leader. There will be ample activity for all ages. What could be better than a beautiful weekend in the mountains with Morningside friends?! (Church will be held on Sunday in the Morningside sanctuary for those who cannot participate in the retreat.)
LENTEN DEVOTIONAL
Lenten Devotionals are available to be picked up today. A very big "Thank You!" to everyone who was willing to design, contribute, or proofread this year's Lenten Devotional.

NEWS FROM PRESBYTERY OF GREATER ATLANTA
At the meeting of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta last Saturday, one of the important votes taken was on Amendment 08-B, which would delete and replace current wording in our denomination's Book of Order that precludes the ordination of gay and lesbian members who are in committed relationships to any office in the church. The amendment passed in our Presbytery by a vote of 243-233. In order for the change to be made in our Book of Order, a majority of the 173 presbyteries across the country must ratify the amendment. Currently, 34 presbyteries have voted in favor the amendment and 45 presbyteries have voted against it. Chris Henry was invited by the Coordinating Council of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta to be one of two speakers to offer brief remarks on Amendment 08-B prior to the debate. Copies of his remarks are available in the narthex.CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

The Bible Class - The Last Week
A Day-by-Day Account of Jesus' Final Week in Jerusalem
Next Sunday, Morningside's Bible Class will continue its Lenten Study on the final days leading to the crucifixion of Jesus through the lens of Mark's Gospel. As we study these well-known scripture passages, we will discuss their meaning for us as we travel our own Lenten Pilgrimage in 2009. Next week, our focus will be on Holy Monday and we will read and study together the story of Jesus driving the merchants and moneychangers out of the Temple, a story that appears in all four gospels. The distinctive elements in each account provide an excellent starting point for our conversation. This class is taught by Associate Pastor Chris Henry and meets at 9:45am in Room 201. Please join us!
