THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being; whose face is hidden
from us by our sins; and whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts;
cleanse us, we beseech you, from all our offenses; and deliver us from proud
thoughts and vain desires; that with lowliness and meekness we may draw near to
you; confessing our sins, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and
our strength; through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473)
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent child, friends on earth,

raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

From all that dwell below the skies, let the Creator's praise arise. Let the Redeemer's

truth attends Thy word. Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore, till suns shall rise and
set no more.

THE SERMON "Two Cheers for Charles" Joanna Adams
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth...Genesis 1:1
* THE HYMN 339 Be Thou My Vision
* THE NICENE CREED (Ecumenical)
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally
begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true
God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all
things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly
human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death
and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the
Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of the
Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his
kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped
and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy
catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the
forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of
the world to come. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
THE OFFERTORY As the Deer Longs for the Streams Raney
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 268 God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
