MOTHER'S DAY OFFERING TO PRESBYTERIAN HOMES
Every year, MPC joins over 200 Presbyterian congregations in Georgia in collecting a special offering on Mother's Day to benefit residents of the Presbyterian Homes of Georgia. This ministry has four campuses and spends approximately $2.75 million in benevolent care each year. With our help, Presbyterian Homes provides exceptional services on our behalf to senior adults who have outlived their financial resources. Please consider a special offering on Mother's Day (May 10) to honor a special woman in your life.
YOUNGER MOMS, PROFESSIONAL WOMEN NVITED TO JOIN ‘LYDIA'S CIRCLE'
How fun is this! A new social and service circle for the younger women in our congregation, named for the biblical matriarch Lydia, will meet the second Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning May 14. Attendees can expect light hors d'oeuvres and a discussion of the best format for future get-togethers. Besides building ties through talking and sharing experiences, members will concentrate on helping children within our community. Carrie Branon hosts the first meeting (786 San Antonio Dr., 30306). RSVP to her at 404 272.5999 or carriebranon@yahoo.com. Refer questions to the organizers: Carrie, Tara Parrish and Blair Weikel.
PRESBYTERIAN INVESTOR CIRCLE
If you are interested in exploring investments and savings through the Presbyterian Investor Circle, please take one of the new Presbyterian Investment and Loan brochures from the kiosk in the narthex.
HABITAT BUILD CONTINUES
MPC is partnering with four other area churches to make affordable homeownership a reality for an Atlanta family. Please consider participating with our remaining builds---Saturdays, May 9 and 16. For more information, contact Lynsley Tyler (Lynsley@bellsouth.net or 404.724.0606).
TAI CHI CONTINUES
Wednesdays at 2 pm in Fellowship Hall, join us for Tai Chi. This will be an 8 week course for only $50.00. Beginners welcome! One participant from the last class credits Tai Chi with preventing a potentially serious fall. Tai Chi has also proven to lower your stress and your blood pressure. Come see what Tai Chi can do for you! For more information email Sarah Brownlee rsbrownlee1046@att.net.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed to fold church bulletins for one to two hours on Friday mornings. If you can do this on a regular basis or substitute on occasion, please call the church office at 404.876.7396 and talk with Ann Benson, x. 20 or Anna Best x. 10.
SIX STAR FAMILIES
There is an immediate need for tutors for our Six Star refugee families. This involves helping two middle school students with homework and adults in English. It's guaranteed to be a rewarding and much appreciated service. Please email Betsy Armstrong at bjarmstrong@bellsouth.net for details.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
The Bible on Economics
Week Two: Scarcity or Abundance? The Providence of God in the Torah
Next Sunday, Morningside's Bible Class will continue its five-week series exploring scriptural themes related to the economy. As we struggle to understand what it means to call ourselves Christian in our time, we turn to the timeless words of the Hebrew scriptures and New Testament. Next week, we explore the theme of God's providence in the first five books of the Bible. Is it true that God "helps those who help themselves?" What lessons can we learn from the wilderness wanderings of our faith ancestors? Join us as we discover streams in the barren desert and abundant feasts in the midst of scarce resources! The Morningside Bible Class is taught by Associate Pastor Chris Henry and meets at 9:45am in Room 201. All are welcome.
