WORSHIP MAY 10, 2009
FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER EASTER

THE PRELUDE Walter Huff

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP Christopher Henry
Leader: I will recount the gracious deeds of the Lord, the praiseworthy acts of
God most high.
People: Because of all that the Lord has done for us, according to the
abundance of God's love.
Leader: It was your presence that saved the house of Israel, your love and pity
that redeemed them.
People: We join with them as your people, O God, your children
who sing our praises to you.
Leader: People of God, welcome home.
All: Let us worship the living God!

* THE HYMN 482

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O God, giver of mercy, in Christ's name hear us as we confess our sin. We
speak when we should listen; we hesitate when we should act. Anger prevents
us from working your righteousness; selfishness inhibits our responding in
faith. We are called to proclaim boldly the dawn of your kingdom, but our
shouts turn out to be mere whispers. We are called to love one another, but
fear stands in our way. Forgive the waywardness of your children, O God, and
free us to begin again as loving and faithful followers of the risen Christ.
Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

* THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again
from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of
God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
