THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty God, who sent the promised power of the Holy Spirit to fill
disciples with willing faith: we confess that we have held back the force of
your Spirit among us; that we have been slow to serve you, and reluctant to
spread the good news of your love. God, have mercy on us. Forgive our
divisions, and by your Spirit draw us together. Fill us with flaming desire to do
your will, and be a faithful people; for the sake of your Son, our Lord, Jesus
Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

Come, shed abroad a Savior's love, and that shall kindle ours. Amen.

* THE HYMN 321 Holy Spirit, Truth Divine

* THE CREED A Brief Statement of Faith - Presbyterian Church (USA)
We trust in God the Holy Spirit,
everywhere the giver and renewer of life.
The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith,
sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor,
and binds us together with all believers
in one body of Christ, the church.
In a broken and fearful world
the Spirit gives us courage
to pray without ceasing,
to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior,
to unmask idolatries in church and culture,
to hear the voices of peoples long silenced,
and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit,
we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks
and to live holy and joyful lives,
even as we watch for God's new heaven and new earth,
praying, Come, Lord Jesus!

THE OFFERTORY Come, Holy Ghost, Lord God Buxtehude

* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)

* THE HYMN 320 The Lone, Wild Bird

* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Come Down, O Love Divine Vaughan Williams
Come down, O Love Divine, seek out this soul of mine and visit it with your own ardor
glowing. O Comforter, draw near, within my heart appear, and kindle it, your holy flame
bestowing. And so the yearning strong with which the soul will long shall far outpass the power of
human telling. For none can guess God's grace, till love creates a place wherein the Holy Spirit
makes a dwelling.
