WORSHIP JUNE 14, 2009
11TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the
morning will greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The
people will respond, "And also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the
prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and the call to worship will take place, followed by the
processional hymn. Our goal is to make the sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the
congregation gathers to honor God's holy name.

THE GATHERING
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE Larghetto Handel

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP Christopher Henry
Leader: Let us pray.
People: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known,
and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by
the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and
worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 483 Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy and merciful God, in your presence we confess our sinfulness, our
shortcomings, and our offenses against you. You alone know how often we
have sinned in wandering from your ways, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting
your love. Have mercy on us, O God of great compassion, for we are ashamed
and sorry for all we have done to displease you. Forgive our sins, and help us
to live in your light, and walk in your ways, for the sake of Jesus Christ our
Savior. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures; He will my
shield and portion be as long as life endures.

* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Three-year-olds are in
Room 208; Pre-K in 011; K - 2nd grade in 001; 3rd - 5th grades in G-3.)

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)

THE FIRST READING II Corinthians 5:14-17 (page 170 in the pew Bible)

THE ANTHEM When Rooks Fly Homeward Baynon
When rooks fly homeward and shadows fall, when roses fall on the hay yard wall, when
blind moths flutter by door and tree, then comes the quiet of Christ to me. When stars
look out on the children's path and grey mists gather on carn and rath, when night is one
with the brooding sea, then comes the quiet of Christ to me. (text-Joseph Campbell)

THE SECOND READING Mark 4:26-34 (page 36 in the pew Bible)

THE SERMON "Miracle Grow" Joanna Adams The kingdom of God is as if....Mark 4:26a

* THE HYMN 333 Seek Ye First

* THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the
Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose
again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right
hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the
quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY Consolation List

* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)

* THE HYMN 485 To God Be the Glory
