THE LAY LITURGIST
The Lay Liturgy Team assists during worship in accordance with our Reformed theology, which professes the priesthood of all believers. Tim Gargis, our liturgist this morning, is a member of this group.

PLAYGROUND PICNIC
All are welcome after worship today at the picnic tables for a family picnic.  Bring a dish to share.  Beverages and paper products will be provided.

REFLECTIONS ON THIRTY YEARS OF MINISTRY
Morningside's pastor, Joanna Adams, was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament on July 3, 1979. Next Sunday, on July 5, 2009, the Sunday marking her thirtieth year of ordained ministry, Joanna will offer reflections on the lessons and experiences of three decades of distinguished leadership in the Presbyterian Church and the City of Atlanta. Joanna has written extensively on this topic over the years, contributing articles and chapters to a number of books. This informal conversation with our pastor will take place after worship next week in Room 201.

INTERIOR DESIGN SALE
MPC Doug Self, owner of J. Douglas Atlanta, an interior design showroom at Atlanta's Merchandise Mart, has made available a collection of his showroom accessories for purchase by MPC members and the community. Our interior design sale will be held Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Items available include: lamps, mirrors, wall hangings, occasional tables, and small accent items. Proceeds will benefit MPC's Time of Promise Campaign.

MPC COUPLES GROUP
Please join Joanna and Al Adams, Kathy and Alan Bremer, Mardee Rightmyer and Julie Green, Michelle and Guerry Mashburn and other MPC couples for refreshments and a brainstorm session on Friday, July 17, at 7 p.m. Wine, cheese, and dessert will be served at Kathy and Alan Bremers', 785 Cumberland Rd. The hope is to form a couples group which will begin in the fall of 2009.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

The Bible Class
The Epistle to the Hebrews

Next Sunday, July 5, Morningside's Bible Class will begin a new six-week series based on Professor Walter Brueggemann's book, Great Prayers of the Old Testament. Each week, we will read and discuss two prayers contained in the Old Testament, followed by a conversation about how these words might inform and inspire our own prayer life and our faith. Next week, we will begin the series with a short introduction to the form and content of Old Testament prayer and then turn to prayers of Abraham and Moses. Come to learn from and be inspired by these moving prayers from our faith ancestors!
