WORSHIP JULY 5, 2009
14TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning
will greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will
respond, "And also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes
will be sounded, and the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our
goal is to make the sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's
holy name.

the Lord.
People: For the Lord does not despise the poor and needy, but when they
cry out, God answers them.
Leader: The hungry shall eat and be satisfied, and those who love the Lord shall offer
praise.
People: All the ends of the earth shall worship God, for the Lord rules over
every nation.
Leader: With boldness and faith, let us worship the living God!

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Righteous God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought,
word, and deed. We have professed our faith in you, and our loyalty to you;
but our words ring hollow. We do not live by the truth we speak. We turn
aside from those in greatest need, and fail to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Forgive us for seeking to serve you merely by saying the right things. Empower
us by your Spirit to live according to your word, so that people may see
our good works, and glorify you as the true Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
