WORSHIP JULY 19, 2009
16TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the
sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy nam
e.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty and most merciful God; We have erred and strayed from your ways
like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our
own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone
those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things
which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But you, O
Lord, have mercy upon us. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore
those who are penitent, according to your promises declared unto humankind
in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful God, for his
sake; That we may hereafter live a godly and righteous life, to the glory of Thy
holy name. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

* THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH A Brief Statement of Faith, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
We trust in God,
whom Jesus called Abba, Father.
In sovereign love God created the world good
and makes everyone equally in God's image
male and female, of every race and people,
to live as one community.
But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator.
Ignoring God's commandments,
we violate the image of God in others and ourselves,
accept lies as truth,
exploit neighbor and nature,
and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care.
We deserve God's condemnation.
Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation.
With believers in every time and place,
we rejoice that nothing in life or in death
can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the
glory, forever. Amen.
