WORSHIP JULY 26, 2009
17TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the
sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy name.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious and merciful God, you have created us in your image. Yet, too
quickly we deny your life-giving ways. You teach us to forgive as we have
been forgiven. Yet, we cling to our anger and disappointments; we hold on to
our hurts and frustrations. You embrace us with your love. Yet, we hoard this
gift, hesitant to embrace our neighbor and share the love you so freely give.
By your steadfast love and mercy, release us from our sinfulness. Return to us
the joy of your salvation. Hear, O Lord, our prayer for your forgiveness. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
