WORSHIP SEPTEMBER 6, 2009
23RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning
will greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will
respond, "And also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes
will be sounded, and the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our
goal is to make the sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's
holy name.

People: That they should not forget the words of God but keep God's
commandments.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you deliver from distress those who cry to you in their trou-
ble. We who are in trouble raise our voices to you. Deliver us, we pray, from
the burden of sin: from wanting too much to impress others and needing to
prove our worth; from inner confusion that has us say one thing but do an-
other-foolishly pursuing what does not lead to life; from oppressive and un-
just practices; from bondage to greed and desire. Lord, deliver and redeem us.
Gather us in from our wandering and lead us by your way. Hear, O Lord, our
prayer for your forgiveness. Amen.
