THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK...
First Church in Kingsville, Texas, once listed several lessons learned from Noah's Ark, including:

1. Don't miss the boat;

2. Stay fit. When you are 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big;

3. Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs;

4. When you are stressed, float a while.

Wednesday Afternoon, September 16...The One Gray Hair groups starts off the Fall with a luncheon at 12 noon in Fellowship Hall. The featured program will be given by Program Director Melinda Sandkam, who will share memories of her trip to Bali.

Saturday Morning, September 19...The second annual Paws on Pavement fundraiser to benefit the Briarcliff Animal Foundation will be held at Morningside. There will be a 2-mile dog walk and 4-mile run through the community.

Sunday, September 20...All are welcome to the congregational lunch after worship. Don't miss out on a delicious hand-pulled pork, green salad, vegetarian baked beans and homemade slaw with some mac n' cheese for kids! Donations will be accepted.

This evening noted actor Brad Sherrill will perform th entire Gospel of John at 6 p.m. in Morningside's sanctuary. Child care will be provided. The gospel is presented free of charge; however, attendees may volunteer an offering.

Big Fun Recap...21 elementary age kids attended the largest ever Big Fun day on Saturday, September 12. Besides dressing up like royalty, artists and theologians of John Calvin's time (think Queen Isabella and Christopher Columbus, Leonardo da Vinci and Martin Luther), they made cupcakes to celebrate his 500th birthday and talked about famous Presbyterians (did you know that the Declaration of Independence was signed by 12 Presbyterians or that 9 US Presidents have been Presbyterian?). They also decorated coin jars to use this fall to save their money to buy gloves and hats for Shearith Israel Women's Shelter AND they made beautiful book plates for the 44 books that are being given to Our House - bought with the children's summer offering and given in honor of John Calvin who placed a strong importance on education

Did You Know...that Bill Means is retiring this month after a distinguished 28 year career at the Atlanta Journal Constitution?

...that Tamara Nix, Morningside member and pediatrician, was featured on the television news recently talking about children and the H1N1 flu virus? She sounded and looked great!
