WORSHIP SEPTEMBER 20, 2009
25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning
will greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will
respond, "And also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes
will be sounded, and the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our
goal is to make the sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's
holy name.
THE GATHERING Christopher Henry
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Voluntary in D Prelleur
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: You know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from
sleep.
People: For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers;
Leader: the night is far gone, the day is near.
People: Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of
light;
All: let us live honorably as in the day...
Together, let us glorify God's holy name. - from Romans 13:11-13
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 263 Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being, your face is hidden
from us by our sins, and we forget your mercy in the blindness of our
hearts. Cleanse us from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and
vain desires. With lowliness and meekness may we draw near to you, confessing
our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and strength;
through Jesus Christ your son. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 417)
Laud and honor to the Father, laud and honor to the Son, laud and honor to
the Spirit, ever three and ever one; One in might and one in glory while unending
ages run.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST

from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of
God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick

everlasting. Amen.
