WORSHIP NOVEMBER 15, 2009
33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the
sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy name.
THE GATHERING Christopher Henry

People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Sonatina for Worship Jones
THE INTROIT Feed My Lambs Sleeth
I Will Sing Dyer

People: Let us ask, that we may joyfully receive.
All: Let us knock so that the door of God's mercy may be opened to us.

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 414 As Those of Old Their Firstfruits Brought
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy and merciful God, in your presence we confess our sinfulness, our
shortcomings, and our offenses against you. You alone know how often we
have sinned in wandering from your ways, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting
your love. Have mercy on us, O God of great compassion for we are ashamed
and sorry for all we have done to displease you. Forgive our sins, and help us
to live in your light, and walk in your ways, for the sake of Jesus Christ our
Savior. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 466)
My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, to spread through all the
earth abroad the honors of Thy name.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Three-year-olds are in
Room 208; Pre-K in 011; K - 1st grade in 001; 2nd - 3rd grade in 003; 4th - 6th grade in 005.)
THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)
THE MINUTE MESSAGE Leslie Prince
THE FIRST LESSON Psalm 81 (page 512 in the pew Bible)
(selected verses)
THE ANTHEM In Every Age Janet Whitaker
Long before the mountains came to be and the land and sea and stars of the night, through the endless seasons
of all time, you have always been, you will always be. In every age, O God, you have been our refuge,
you have been our hope. Teach us to make use of the time we have, to be patient even as we wait, to embrace
our every joy and pain. To sleep peacefully and to rise up strong.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the
glory, forever. Amen.
THE SECOND LESSON II Corinthians 9:6-8 (page 173 in the pew Bible)
THE SERMON "Honey from the Rock" Joanna Adams
I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.
Psalm 81:16
* THE HYMN (422) AND THE OFFERING OF PLEDGES
God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending
(You are invited to come forward and place your pledge cards on the communion table during the singing of the hymn.)
* THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again
from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of
God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen.
THE OFFERTORY O How Amiable Ralph Vaughan Williams
O how amiable are thy dwellings, thou Lord of hosts! My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the
courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house,
and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young; even thy altars, O Lord of hosts-my King and my God.
Blessed are they that dwell in thy house. They will be always praising thee. The glorious majesty of the Lord
our God be upon us. Prosper thou the work of our hands upon us. O prosper thou our handiwork.
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 416)
Laud and honor to the Father, laud and honor to the Son, laud and honor to the
Spirit, ever three and ever one. One in might and one in glory while unending ages
run. Amen.
* THE HYMN 467 How Great Thou Art (verses 1, 2, and 4)
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
