The flowers in the sanctuary are given by David Kohler’s family to the glory of God and in memory of David.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

Congratulations to Domenick and Candon Treschitta, son and daughter of Betty and Domenick Treschitta, who were recently baptized.

SUNDAY FORUM: LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

One hallmark of our Presbyterian/Reformed tradition is an emphasis on engagement with the important issues facing the wider community. Next Sunday after worship, we will have the opportunity to hear about some of those issues from two community leaders. Our speakers will be State Senator Nan Orrock, who will give a preview of what will come before the Georgia General Assembly in 2010, and Mindy Binderman, Advocacy Director for Voices for Georgia’s Children. Mindy will talk about JUSTGeorgia, a coalition working for a complete overhaul of the state’s juvenile justice code. Please plan to join in this timely and important conversation, a part of our ongoing series of Sunday Forums at Morningside, which take place from 12:15 to 1:15pm in Room 201.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT

Pageant practice continues next Sunday.  We need volunteers with all sorts of gifts and talents (sewing, building, helping with kids) for the 2009 Christmas Pageant to be held on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m.  See the display today for specific needs or contact Melinda Sandkam.

WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE

RSVP to Betsy Holland at besty.holland@turner.com today if you can join us at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow for dinner and speaker Rev. Noelle York-Simmons from All Saints Episcopal Church.  We will be meeting at the home of Lynn Young (277 The Prado, 30309).

PASTOR ON CALL

If there is a pastoral emergency over the Thanksgiving holiday (Wednesday through Friday), The Reverend Glenn Small, Jr., an affiliate member at Morningside, is pastor on call. Glenn is an ordained Presbyterian minister and a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice. He can be reached at 770.414.5957 or 404.862.7340.

ADVENT DEVOTIONALS

Next Sunday, we light the first candle on the Advent wreath. Start the season by picking up an Advent Devotional today in the Narthex, Welcome Center or Fellowship Hall.

HOLIDAY SHOPPING FOR MISSION

Knock out hostess gifts and Christmas card purchases this Sunday while supporting the Mission Ministry of Morningside.  MPC Cookbooks are $12 and make a great gift for family at Thanksgiving or teachers or neighbors during the holidays.  Save yourself a trip to the store and send Christmas cards with a beautiful photograph of our sanctuary during last year’s Christmas Eve service.  The cost is $15 for a box of 15 cards.  Both these items are also available for purchase in the church office throughout the week.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Men of Morningside, be sure your calendars are marked for Theology on Tap next Tuesday, December 1 at 7 p.m. We will gather at  the home of Ken Sharpe (1700 Timberland Road, 30345). Topic: "How the Church has Changed" with special guest Rev. Joanna Adams leading the discussion! Joanna will share her reflections, from thirty years of pastoral ministry, on the major shifts in the Christian church in recent decades. The food will be good and the conversation is sure to be lively, make plans to join us!  RSVP to Chris Henry by next Sunday, November 29.

SPEND THE NIGHT AT SHEARITH ISRAEL

Volunteers are needed to spend the night serving dinner and hanging out with the women at the Shearith Israel Shelter, December 3-6. SUPPORT ADOPT-A-GRANDPARENT

DONATE CANNED FOOD

The Session will meet immediately afterward to receive new members. Please be in touch with Joanna Adams via email or 404.876.7396 x11 to let her know of your interest.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

ADVENT THROUGH THE EYES OF THOSE WHO WAITED

Next Sunday, November 29, Morningside's Bible Class will begin our annual Advent series, this year titled, "Advent Through the Eyes of Those Who Waited." This four-week series will lead us from the Old Testament prophets to the equally prophetic pronouncements of Mary and Elizabeth in the months before Jesus' birth. Next week: the prophet Isaiah introduces us to the season of Advent. The Morningside Bible Class meets Sundays at 9:45am in Room 201 and is taught by Associate Pastor Chris Henry.

CHILDREN’S CLASSES

In today’s lesson, the preschool classes learn about listening for the voice of God’s as Samuel did when God called to him. (1 Samuel 3:1–18) Psalm 150 is the scripture for the elementary classes this morning. This is a psalm of praise for God, whose help and guidance are always with us.
