WORSHIP NOVEMBER 22, 2009
CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY
Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the
sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy name.

Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Voluntary in D Boyce
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with
gladness; come into God's presence with singing.
People: Know that the Lord is God. You have made us and we are
yours; we are your people and the sheep of your pasture.
Leader: Go through the gates with thanksgiving, and into the courts with praise.
Give thanks and bless God's name.
People: Your steadfast love endures forever, and your faithfulness to
all generations.
Leader: With boldness and faith, let us worship the living God!
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Righteous God, you have crowned Jesus Christ as Lord of all. We confess that
we have not bowed before him, and are slow to acknowledge his rule. We give
allegiance to the powers of this world, and fail to be governed by justice and
love. In your mercy, forgive us. Raise us to acclaim him as ruler of all, that we
may be loyal ambassadors, obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

(Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Three-year-olds are in
Room 208; Pre-K in 011; K - 1st grade in 001; 2nd - 3rd grade in 003; 4th - 6th grade in 005.)

us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the
reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives,
teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and
binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and
calling all to repent and believe the gospel. In gratitude to God, empowered
by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and
joyful lives, even as we watch for God's new heaven and new earth, praying,
Come, Lord Jesus! With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that
nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus
our Lord. Amen.
