Thought of the Week...The more you work at Christmas, the more hours you spend trudging from store to store, sticking your fingers on cedar and pine, licking stamps and chopping nuts and cursing yourself for the ideas you don't have, the names you left off your Christmas list...the more you do these things, the more Christmas is going to mean to you.

How do I know? Because there will come a space in the day when you hear a carol or see the late afternoon sky suffused with light that is half rose, half gold and you will find your spirits lifting and something akin to happiness sweeping over you.

There will be a moment when you see somebody being kind or something funny when you think to yourself, "Ah, Christmas, I love you." - Celestine Sibley, The Atlanta Constitution, 12.22.82

Sunday, December 20...Please join us for the Christmas Pageant today at 5 p.m. The pageant will be followed by a chili and soup dinner and a carol sing. Please remember to bring your women's winter items to benefit the women at the Shearith Israel homeless shelter (hats, gloves, scarves, and slippers). Today is the last day to contribute.

Wednesday, December 16...The Morningside Presbyterian Preschool will celebrate Carols and Coffee at 9:15 a.m. The children will also honor Joanna Adams on her retirement.

Stewardship Update...Morningside is blessed with over 165 households that have made a stewardship pledge for 2010. Some have made a sacrifice in these difficult times to put the church first. But we are still short of our goal. If you are able to make a pledge, this week would be the time. Please call the church office, or the Stewardship Chair, David Wingert (404-377-9008), with any questions. Next Monday the Session meets to decide what MPC can do in the year ahead.

Christmas Eve Services...This year we will have two services. At 4:30 p.m., we will offer a Family Friendly Service with Handbells, child liturgists and Children's Choir. A nursery will be provided. At 8 p.m. we will have our traditional Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols (doors will open at 7:15 p.m.). This service features our Chancel Choir, instruments, soloists and a meditation from Joanna Adams. Childcare will be provided.

Congratulations to...Geneva Bourne on her 95th birthday in November!

Did you know...that a cadre of Morningside elves have been at work at MPC? Each year as Advent begins, a group of dedicated members, new and old, take on the task of transforming Morningside's interior and exterior to reflect the joy and hope of the season. It is a large task, both to organize and to facilitate, and special appreciation is offered to all of those who give of their time, talent, energy and the greenery from their yards to make our spaces beautiful for our membership and many visitors. As you move about the building take note of the Advent trees inside the Welcome Center entry (they change weekly to reflect the focus of Advent), the exterior of the main entry, and the window sills in Fellowship Hall not to mention the banners, greenery and Chrismon tree in the Sanctuary. Morningside is truly blessed by the gifts of these and all our volunteers.
