WORSHIP DECEMBER 27, 2009
FIRST SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS
Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the
sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy name.
THE GATHERING Joanna Adams
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.
People: We have beheld his glory, Alleluia!
Leader: Almighty God has wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the diginity of human nature.
People: Let us share the divine life of Jesus Christ who came to share our humanity,
Leader: and who now lives and reigns with the Creator and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
THE HYMN 28 Good Christian Friends Rejoice
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of grace and truth, in Jesus Christ you came among us as light shining in
darkness. We confess that we have not welcomed the light, or trusted good
news to be good. We have closed our eyes to glory in our midst, expecting little,
and hoping for less. Forgive our doubt, and renew our hope, so that we may
receive the fullness of your grace, and live in the truth of Christ the Lord.
Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of
God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen.
