The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God by the MPC congregation in celebration of Joanna Adams’ ministry at Morningside Presbyterian Church.
DAY 1
Joanna Adams is the featured speaker on today’s “Day 1” program. This program, which is in its 65th year of weekly broadcasts, celebrates Joanna’s three decades as a pastor, preacher, and church leader. Visit the website at www.day1.org.
PASTOR ON CALL
This week, Chris Henry will be attending a required Interim Pastor Training Conference at Calvin Center in Hampton, GA. If there is a pastoral emergency, Glenn Small, Jr., an affiliate member at Morningside, is pastor on call. Glenn is an ordained Presbyterian minister and a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice. He can be reached at 770.414.5957 or 404.862.7340.
TOM LONG PREACHING NEXT SUNDAY
Next Sunday we will welcome as our distinguished guest preacher the Reverend Dr. Thomas G. Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. An ordained Presbyterian minister, Dr. Long is the author of many books in the fields of preaching, worship, and Biblical studies including, most recently, "Accompany Them with Singing: The Christian Funeral." Dr. Long has preached and lectured to Christian communities all over the world, and we are so fortunate that he will be with us next week.
PICK-A-PAN SUNDAY
Join us in providing lunch to 45 men attending the Common Ground program at Atlanta AIDS Faith & Health this Tuesday, January 12. Take home an empty pan from the narthex and return it by 10 a.m. on Tuesday filled with the requested item.
LYDIA CIRCLE
The next circle meeting for young moms and female professionals at MPC will be held Thursday, January 14 from 7-9 p.m. at the home of Tamara Nix, 1732 N. Rock Springs NE 30324. RSVP to Tara Parrish, taraparrish@bellsouth.net.
MPP REGISTRATION
Registration for the 2010-2011 school year at Morningside Presbyterian Preschool begins on Tuesday, January 19 for currently enrolled families and the MPC church community. Be sure to contact with Preschool Director Sarah Tomaka for details. Open registration begins on February 1.
SMALL GROUP BIBLE STUDY
If you are interested in studying Paul's letter to the Philippians with a small group of Morningside friends, then this is the opportunity for you! TAI CHI
There will be two Tai Chi practice classes meeting at the church once a week for eight weeks, beginning January 20, 2010. The morning group will meet Wednesdays 10:30-11:30 a.m. The evening group will meet Wednesdays 7-8 p.m. The instructors will be Bob Wells and Doris Williams. Today, Morningside Presbyterian Church is providing the evening meal for the 30 men who are in residence at the Druid Hills Night Shelter. For more information about participating in this monthly program (2nd Sunday evening), contact Julie Green at jgree09@emory.edu.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
The Bible Class -Bible Basics: Getting Into Scripture
Next Sunday, January 17, Morningside's Bible Class will continue its series entitled, "Bible Basics: Getting into Scripture." This four-week series is designed to give new or inexperienced Bible students some of the basic tools needed to more fully understand how to approach the scriptures of the Hebrew Bible and New Testament. It is also a great refresher course for longtime students of the Bible. If your New Year's resolution is to learn more about your faith, this is the place to start! The Morningside Bible Class meets each Sunday at 9:45am in Room 201 and is taught by Associate Pastor Christopher Henry.
CHILDREN’S CLASSES
Today's story for the 3's and Pre-K tells the story of Jesus calling the special friends who became his followers. The scripture lesson for the elementary age classes is Mark 1:1–8, and tells the story of John baptizing people and proclaiming that one is coming whose baptism will change lives. The lesson explains that through baptism, we are adopted and welcomed into God’s family. (Mark 1:1–8)
