This morning we welcome the Rev. Mary Miller Brueggemann, who joins our staff as part-time Pastoral Assistant. Mary brings a wealth of experience in parish and interim ministry, most recently as Parish Associate at Northwest Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Our fellowship hour following worship is sponsored by the Human Resources Committee in honor of Mary; please welcome her to MPC!
ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
Following worship next Sunday, January 31, MPC will convene its annual meeting. Among the agenda items are: review of the 2010 budget, update of our A Time of Promise campaign and a report from the Transition Team. We will distribute copies of Morningside’s 2009 annual report at the meeting. Plan to attend this important meeting.
NEW MEMBER SUNDAY-JANUARY 31
If you have been thinking about joining Morningside on our next New Member Sunday, plan on coming to the Inquirers' Class January 31 at 9:45 a.m. in the Session Room. The Session will meet immediately afterward to receive new members. HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE
If you are seeking a way to reach out to those in Haiti facing the devastation of last week’s earthquake, you may designate a check to MPC for the good work that the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is doing. In addition, all who are interested are invited to the Session Room after worship to hear more about the nation of Haiti from Chris Henry and to pray together for those most deeply impacted by this tragic event.
MPP REGISTRATION
Registration for the 2010-2011 school year at Morningside Presbyterian Preschool began January 19 for currently enrolled families and the MPC church community. Be sure to contact Sarah Tomaka for details. Open registration begins on February 1.
WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE
Women’s Roundtable welcomes Kate Atwood for its next meeting tomorrow, January 25 at 6:30 p.m. Kate is the founder of “Kate’s Club,” a nonprofit that works with young people who have experienced the death of a loved one. Roundtable meets in the home of Lynn Young at 277 The Prado. RSVP to Betsy Holland at betsy.holland@turner.com.
ONE GRAY HAIR

Men of Morningside, mark your calendars for Theology on Tap next Tuesday, February 2 at 7 p.m. We will gather at the home of Phil Regnault (1322 Berwick Ave., 30306). Topic: "The True Value of Social Capital." We will discuss the importance of connections and community in the lives of men and share our insights and experiences. The Double Digits (4th-6th graders) invite you to bring $2 for the Souper Bowl offering on February 7. Our collection will go to Atlanta Community Food Bank. Then proceed to Fellowship Hall to enjoy a delicious lunch of shrimp and grits, vegetable frittata, green salad and dessert. Mac’n cheese will be provided for kids, and there will be a chicken dish for those who are allergic to shellfish. RSVP to the church office AND invite a friend to come. Help us feed everyone, by letting us know you are coming! Suggested donation: adults $10, children $5.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
The Bible Class—A Journey Through the Word
Next Sunday, January 31, Morningside's Bible Class will begin a new series entitled, "A Journey Through the Word." Through the end of April, we will be making our way through the New Testament, studying a different book of the Bible each week. Next week MPC member Jim Martin leads the first session on the Gospel of Matthew. Come as often as you are able to gain a greater understanding of scripture! The Morningside Bible Class meets each Sunday at 9:45am in Room 201.
CHILDREN’S CLASSES
Today, preschool classes learn the story of the baptism of Jesus. Elementary classes continue to learn about baptism, following the theme of baptism as the process through which one is adopted and welcomed into God's family (Acts 2:38-31; Ephesians 4:4-6)
