WORSHIP JANUARY 24, 2010
3RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the
sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy name.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you made us in your image, with a mind to know you, a heart
to love you, and a will to serve you. But our knowledge is imperfect, our love
inconstant, our obedience incomplete. Daily we fail to grow into your likeness;
yet you are slow to be angry with your children. For the sake of your Son, Jesus
Christ, do not hold our sins against us, but in your tender love, forgive. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

O for a thousand tongues to sing my dear Redeemer's praise.
The glories of my God and King, the triumph of God's grace!

THE MINUTE MISSION Amy DeBaets and Brian Mills

THE FIRST LESSON Isaiah 43:1-7 David York
(page 631 in the pew Bible)

THE ANTHEM We Give Thanks Bush
We give thanks-for the precious things of heaven, for the dew and for the deep that coucheth beneath. The
breathless beauty of earth is given, the majesty of sea and heaven, the power vast beyond our knowing, in
rain and sun and wind blowing. Tall corn, and wheat in ripe repleteness, old orchards bent with heavy
sweetness, each vine and root that yields its treasure, flowers fragrant for our pleasure. And for the chief
things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the everlasting hills-serene and permanent,
give long assurance-content through all things that we may live-God was, God is, and God will be.

THE SECOND LESSON Luke 9:1-6 (page 64 in the pew Bible)

THE SERMON "When All You Have Is All You Need" Christopher Henry
He said to them, "Take nothing for your journey..." Luke 9:3a

* THE HYMN 172 My Shepherd Will Supply My Need

* THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again
from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of
God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
