WORSHIP FEBRUARY 7, 2010
5TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the
sanctuary as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy name.
THE GATHERING Mary Miller Brueggemann
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP

above the clouds, O Lord.
People: We come to worship amazed at your handiwork.
Leader: Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, and your judgments
like the great deep.
People: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The whole earth is full
of your glory.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you have planted the stars in the skies and given us the sun for
the day. Yet, you also call us to come and follow you. We find ourselves timid
and fearful. We are afraid to use the gifts you have given us. Often, we turn
away and are indifferent to your will. In your mercy, forgive us. Give us courage
to follow in your way. Turn our timidness to firm steps of service in faith,
hope and love. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
