PNC COMMISSIONING

As a part of our worship today, we will commission the members of the Pastor Nominating Committee for the important ministry to which they have been called. Members of the committee are: Anne Barnette, Ellen Brown, Sarah Brownlee, Martin Dunlap, Jennye Guy, Greg Morton, Michael Perez. Please keep them, and our congregation, in your prayers.

DONATE TO THREADS

Starting today we are collecting new pajamas, underwear and socks for the children in need who go to the Threads outreach for clothing. Place your donations in baskets in the Welcome Center or bring them to the Pancake Supper on February 16. Contact Shepherd Gail Kitchens at gailkitchens@gmail.com with any questions.

DRUID HILLS NIGHT SHELTER

This evening Morningside’s Bible Class is providing the evening meal for the 30 men who are in residence at the Druid Hills Night Shelter.  For information about participating in this monthly program, contact Julie Green at jgree09@emory.edu. Sign up with a group of friends for March 14 or April 11.

PANCAKES AND PAJAMAS

Everyone is invited to come out to enjoy pancakes for dinner on Shrove Tuesday, February 16, 5:30-6:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Kids are invited to wear their pajamas. Contact Chip Edgerton if you can volunteer for this outreach to our community.

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

Please plan to join us for our Ash Wednesday Service, February 17 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. This solemn and sacred worship service marks the beginning of the season of Lent and includes the imposition of ashes. Childcare will be provided in Room 105.

SANCTUARY FLOWERS

We are trying something different at MPC. A flower calendar will soon be posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Session Room, and if you wish to give flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite you to write your name and phone number next to the desired date. It is possible to share a date with other members if you want to give one arrangement or you may signup alone to give both arrangements. Contact Georgia Marshall, Head of Flower Guild, for more details (gkmarshall@gmail.com or 404-909-3477-cell). Contact Anna Best in the office by Tuesday of that week for bulletin recognition.

LUNCH & LEARN

Recent new members and those considering membership are invited to a lunch with Rev. Chris Henry on Sunday, February 21, 12:15-2 p.m. in Room 107. We will discuss what it means to be Presbyterian and what it means to be following the way of Jesus in the world today. RSVP by February 15 to Deacon Tim Gargis at tgargis@gmail.com so lunch and childcare arrangements can be made for you.

MPC 2009 ANNUAL REPORTS AVAILABLE

If you missed getting your copy of Morningside’s 2009 annual report, copies are still available in the Welcome Center and Narthex. Please help yourself. Updates from all the ministry teams as well as information about the 2010 budget and the A Time of Promise campaign are included.

GIVING AT MORNINGSIDE

To date, the Morningside Community has joined together to donate $1810 to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti.  As their work will continue for years to come, donations continue to be accepted.  Last Sunday, our 4th-6th graders were very excited to count $443.69 given towards the Souper Bowl efforts to fight hunger – a new record for MPC.  Thank you for realizing that during tough economic times, those facing hunger are among those hit the hardest.  In that spirit, we continue our support of Intown Collaborative Ministries by beginning Lent with a canned food drive.  Bring a canned food item to our Ash Wednesday service and the first two Sundays of Lent to support their food pantry.

MPC MEMBERS INVITED TO SEE THE PLAY “BROWNIE POINTS”

The playwright tells the story of five women of diverse backgrounds who take their young girls on an overnight camping trip, and during that time, say more to each other about race, religion, and responsibility than ever before. The play is a dramatic comedy with a lot of heart. Alan and Kathy Bremer are hosting the February 26 evening, and MPC friends can order discount tickets for $25. For more information, contact the Bremers at 404.872.3001 or kdbremer@bellsouth.net.

CONGRATULATIONS TO

Tia and Brian Bartis and big brother Robert who welcomed Luke to the world on January 27.  Luke weighed in at 6 lbs. and 12 oz., and mom and baby are doing fine.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

The Bible Class

A Journey Through the Word

Next Sunday, February 21, Morningside's Bible Class will continue its series entitled, "A Journey Through the Word." Associate Pastor Chris Henry will lead a discussion of the Gospel of John, the next in our book-by-book study of the New Testament. The Morningside Bible Class meets each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201.

Faith Development Class

Next Sunday, February 21, you are invited to join conveners Katie Davis and Amy DeBaets in a new class on Faith Development. The focus of this class will be personal and communal spiritual growth. The class will meet in the Church Parlor (Rm 107) at 9:45 a.m. and will run through May. You are invited to come for the entire class or sections of the class. Call Katie Davis at 770.923.0002 for more information or to sign up in advance.  Everyone is welcome.

CHILDREN’S CLASSES

Today the three and pre-K classes will learn how a generous little boy gave his lunch to Jesus who used it to feed many. Continuing in the study of the Lord’s Prayer, elementary classes learn that Jesus teaches us to pray with trust that all things rest in God’s hands (Matthew 6:9–15).
