WORSHIP MARCH 28, 2010
PALM SUNDAY

Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the sanctuary
as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy name
.

THE GATHERING Mary Miller Brueggemann
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist

Children and Adults: Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest!

A WORD WITH THE CHILDREN

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lord God, forgive us. We delight in singing ‘Hosanna' but are hesitant to follow
all the way to Golgotha. We confess that lingering fear obscures our faith. Give
us, this week, eyes to see your will and ears to hear the voices of grace. Lift us up
to the hope and healing of the cross. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 416)
Laud and honor to the Father, laud and honor to the Son, laud and honor to
the Spirit, ever three and ever one; One in might and one in glory while unending
ages run.

* THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Three-year-olds are in
Room 208; Pre-K in 011; K - 1st grade in 001; 2nd - 3rd grade in 003; 4th - 6th grade in 005.)

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

Hear my prayer, to You all flesh will come.

THE SECOND LESSON Luke 19:28-40 (page 78 in the pew Bible)

THE SERMON "Palms, Parades, and Power" Christopher Henry
As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. Luke 19:36

* THE HYMN 85 What Wondrous Love Is This

* THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from
the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the
dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of
saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
