WORSHIP APRIL 11, 2010
SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER

Our preparation for worship is as follows: Before the prelude begins, the liturgist for the morning will
greet the congregation from the lectern, saying "The Lord be with you." The people will respond, "And
also with you." At this point, the prelude will begin. After the prelude, the chimes will be sounded, and
the call to worship will take place, followed by the processional hymn. Our goal is to make the sanctuary
as worshipful as possible as the congregation gathers to honor God's holy name.

THE GATHERING Mary Miller Brueggemann

People: And also with you.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of the Risen Christ, you have loved us so much as to raise Christ from the
tomb. In you we find only life and grace; you grant us peace in Christ. You give
us forgiveness of sins. You welcome us back-without revenge-when we have
been faithless. Bring us your peace and lead us to forgive others. Carry us
through our times of disbelief. May we believe that Jesus is the Christ! In that
knowledge grant us life in his name, for it is in his name we pray. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE SOLO The Trumpet Shall Sound (from Messiah) G.F. Handel
Jason Hardy, bass
Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment,
in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. The trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be
raised incorruptible. - I Corinthians 15:51-52

THE SECOND LESSON John 20:19-31 (page 108 in the pew Bible)

THE SERMON "Hand-Witness Testimony" The Rev. Dr. Catherine Taylor

* THE HYMN 121 That Easter Day With Joy Was Bright

* THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from
the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of
saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and
the glory, forever. Amen.
