WELCOME REV. DR. THOMAS EVANS
This morning we welcome as our distinguished guest preacher the Reverend Dr. Thomas Evans, Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta. Tom came to Atlanta from Birmingham, Alabama, where he served as Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley. Prior to that, he served churches in Idaho Falls, Idaho; Magnolia, Arkansas; and Buffalo, New York. Tom is a gifted preacher and leader, and we are fortunate to welcome him as our preacher this Pentecost Sunday at Morningside!
LAY LITURGIST
In keeping with the Presbyterian tenet of the priesthood of all believers, Morningside maintains a Lay Liturgy Team. Our lay reader this morning is Katie Davis.

HARMONY: INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CHORUS AT MPC
Atlanta's International Youth Chorus invites all members and friends of Morningside Church to attend HARMONY'S Alumni Reunion Concert today at 5 p.m. in the MPC sanctuary. This family and child friendly concert features flute, oboe, double bass, piano and percussion as well as some choral movement and signing.
CALVIN COURT
Our annual collection of goods for the Presbyterian Senior Community of Calvin Court continues through next Sunday, May 30. Requested items are canned vegetables and meats, toiletries and paper products. Please see specific lists on our website or on the donation baskets display in the Welcome Center.
MISSION COOKBOOKS
Support the outreach work of MPC with the purchase of a MPC cookbook for $10. The children have bought dishtowel “wrappings” with their offering and will sell them after worship today. They make a great gift for Father’s Day, a new home or a hostess gift.
PASTOR ON CALL

A lot of exciting work is going on at MPC, and you are invited to be a part of it. SUMMER AT MORNINGSIDE
- Kids 4 years old through 5th grade are welcome to Vacation Bible School June 21-25, 8:45 a.m.-12 noon. Join in the adventure as we travel ‘Around the World in 5 Days’ exploring mission at each destination. Take-home projects are available now.
- In July, children who have completed 2nd-6th grade are welcome to our second annual Mission Camp. We will do outreach with children, seniors, the environment and those facing hunger Monday-Thursday, July 26-29, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. On Friday, July 30, we will meet at 3 p.m. to head to Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue Center for an overnight stay. Do you have a large tent to loan us? Cost is $100 if registered by June 6.
- Registration and volunteer forms for VBS and Mission Camp are available on the website and on the bulletin board across from the nursery. Contact Melinda Sandkam with questions including scholarship information.

MEN'S RETREAT
Feeling suffocated by city life? Tired of the smog, construction, and traffic? Our third annual Men of Morningside "Saturday Escape to Suches" on June 12 may be just the cure for what ails you! We will meet in the church parking lot that morning, spend the day relaxing with one another in the mountains, enjoy a delicious dinner, and return to Atlanta in the evening. BISHOP WILLIAM WILLIMON AT MORNINGSIDE ON JUNE 13
Mark your calendars now for Sunday, June 13 when our guest preacher will be the Reverend Dr. William Willimon, United Methodist Bishop of the North Alabama Conference. Bishop Willimon was for twenty years Dean of the Chapel and Professor of Christianity Ministry at Duke University. He is author of sixty books and has been awarded honorary degrees from twelve colleges and universities. Willimon is a renowned preacher, teacher, author, and church leader who has preached and taught all over the world, and we look forward to welcoming him to Morningside. Following worship, Bishop Willimon will lead a Sunday Forum in the fellowship hall on the state of mainline Protestant churches in the 21st Century. Make plans to be here on June 13!
CHURCH RETREAT TO MONTREAT
The dates have been set for our second annual fall retreat to Montreat, North Carolina. Mark your calendars now for the November 19-21 return to the wonderful William Black Lodge. Registration forms will be available in June.
UPCOMING MISSION TRIPS
As Presbyterian Disaster Assistance begins its flood recovery work in Nashville, Morningside is in conversation with them regarding a date to help with these efforts. Watch for more details. MPC has also made plans to go to Haiti October 9-15 to work with St. Joseph's Boys Orphanage. Contact Duncan Spears if you are interested in the PDA trip to Tennessee and Brad Odom regarding information on Haiti trip.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
The Bible Class - A Journey Through the Word
Next week, Morningside's Bible Class will continue its series entitled, "A Journey Through the Word." MPC member Jim Martin will lead the discussion on Hebrews, the next in our book-by-book study of the New Testament. The Morningside Bible Class meets each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201.
Children’s Classes
Three’s and Pre-K children will celebrate Pentecost with the “Story of the Light” and in the classroom they will learn about Paul’s escape at sea. Elementary age classes will learn how the new followers of Jesus received the gift of the Holy Spirit.
