Holy and Merciful God, we come in humility confessing who and what we are.
We give you the places of our hearts that have been choked by the cares of the
world. We give you our tiredness, our sin, our struggles with apathy. Have mercy
on us, O God. Transform our timid lives by the power of your Spirit. Fill us with desire
to be your faithful people through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)

THE FIRST LESSON Psalm 146 (page 549 in the pew Bible)

THE ANTHEM God Is My Strong Salvation Austin Lovelace
(based on a Southern folk hymn from "The Sacred Harp"-1844)
God is my strong salvation. What foe have I to fear? In darkness and temptation, my light, my help is
near. Though hosts encamp around me, firm in the fight I stand. What terror can confound me, with
God at my right hand? Place on the Lord reliance, my soul with courage wait. His truth be thine affiance,
when faint and desolate. His might thy heart shall strengthen, His love thy joy increase, mercy thy
days shall lengthen; the Lord will give thee peace.

THE SECOND LESSON Luke 7:11-17 (page 61 in the pew Bible)

THE SERMON "Pay Attention" Christopher Henry
When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her,
‘Do not weep.' Luke 7:13

* THE HYMN 399 We Walk by Faith and Not by Sight

* THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended
into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence
he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the
forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God Paul Bouman
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy
presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Grant unto me the joy of Thy salvation; uphold me
with Thy free Spirit.
