THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
"All of the gospels depict Jesus and his disciples as people on the move. They never stay anywhere long. Jesus teaches or performs some wonder, then immediately moves on. A dead god is a god who locates, settles in, never surprises. A living God is a God on the move."
~Bishop William Willimon
A Word from Chris:
Dear Friends,
This Sunday, June 13, promises to be a memorable and extraordinary day for Morningside Presbyterian Church. We will welcome Bishop William H. Willimon as our distinguished guest preacher. Bishop Willimon, who was for twenty years Dean of the Chapel and Professor of Christian Ministry at Duke University and Divinity School, is now United Methodist Bishop of the North Alabama Conference and continues to be one of the leading voices for mainline Protestantism in the United States. When Baylor University conducted a worldwide survey to determine the twelve most effective preachers in the English-speaking world, Bishop Willimon was on that list. His sixty books have made a lasting impact on preachers, teachers, and congregations all over the United States and over one million copies of his books have sold. He has lectured, taught, and preached to Christian communities, congregations, and conferences all over the world. Perhaps most significantly, Bishop Willimon is a visionary leader and a prophetic preacher. You will be nourished, blessed, challenged, and enlivened by his preaching. I hope that you will make plans to be here, and invite your friends, as we welcome a truly remarkable preacher and one of my most treasured mentors--it will be a day to remember at Morningside!
Grace and Peace,
Chris Henry
