THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, your merciful love extends to the ends of the earth
and throughout all generations. We confess that we have drawn boundaries
around your inclusive grace. Forgive us when we confuse our way with
yours; when we substitute our truth for yours; when we deny to some the fullness
of life you intend for all. Open our eyes to see your way, our ears to hear
your truth, and our hearts to embrace your life-giving ways; through Jesus
Christ, the light of the world. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473)
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth,
and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Lord of all to thee we
raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Three-year-olds are in
Room 208; Pre-K in 011; K - 2nd grade in 001; 3rd - 6th grade in 005.)

THE RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS

THE FIRST LESSON Isaiah 55:1-5 (page 644 in the pew Bible)

THE ANTHEM Be Thou My Vision arr. Alice Parker
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; nought be all else to me, save that Thou art; Thou my best
thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my
true word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I thy true son; Thou in me
dwelling, and I with Thee one. Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and
always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art. High King of
heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven’s joy, O bright heaven’s sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever
befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

THE SECOND LESSON Philippians 4:10-14 (page 187 in the pew Bible)

THE SERMON “Enough is Enough” Christopher Henry
Not that I am referring to being in need; for I have learned to be content with
whatever I have. Philippians 4:11

* THE HYMN 428 We Give Thee but Thine Own (verses 1 through 4)

* THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from The Iona Abbey Worship Book
We believe in God;
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus,
the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others
by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the church:
to celebrate God’s presence,
to live with respect in creation,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and
the glory, forever. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY Prayer (Our Father) Charles Romer
Peter Dickson, tenor
